Tripsta on mobile travels in Romania: May – most popular for mobile bookings

Romanians have integrated mobile devices in their daily lives and use them in all their daily activities, including when it comes of booking their holiday travels. According to Tripsta’s data[1], the number of bookings made via mobile devices increased in 2015 compared to 2014, with Romanian men using their mobiles more than women in order to book their holidays.

Between January and June 2015, the bookings made via mobile increased, with the highest growth registered in May – 7 times up compared to the same period in 2014 -, followed by April (3 times more compared to 2014) and March (double compared to the same month last year).

London, Istanbul and Malaga – top destination booked via mobile by Romanian travelers in 2015

London (UK)  is one of the top destination booked by Romanian travelers via their mobiles in the first half of the current year, along with Istanbul (Turkey) and Malaga (Spain).

The top 3 most mobile booked destinations changed in 2015 compared to last year, then preferred for mobile bookings were Athens and Heraklion (Greece), along with Lyon (France).

Close to €1000 – the most expensive mobile booking in 2015, €50 – the cheapest  

The most expensive flights booked via mobile devices in the first half of this year have a cost close to €1,000, namely a flight from Otopeni to Hamburg with a cost of €870, booked from mobile, and one from the same departure airport to Lisbon, that was €995 and was booked via iOS.

Last year, the most expensive flight booked from Tripsta’s mobile website was to the Dulles International Airport in Washington (USA) and had a cost of €2,470.

When it comes of the cheapest flights booked by Romanians, those were towards Istanbul (€56) via mobile and London (€50) via iOS. Last year, the cheapest route booked by Romanians via mobile was from Otopeni to Lutton (UK), for a price of €87.

Who booked via mobile?

In the first half of the current year, men used more than women their mobiles to book holidays. In the same time, compared to last year, the number of men using their mobiles for booking holidays went up 310%, while the number of women increased by 220%.

Romanians who booked their holidays via mobiles did so via Tripsta’s mobile website or via its iOS app. The mobile bookings represented 14% of total number of bookings made via Tripsta in the first half of the current year, up from 5% last year and posting an increase of 360%, basically tripling from one year to another. On the other hand, the iOS bookings represented 2.5% of the total bookings for the first half of 2015.
