Conran Design Group to develop Whale and Dolphin Conservation 30th anniversary brand identity

Branding

Leading wildlife charity, Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) has appointed award-winning brand design agency, Conran Design Group, to develop a brand identity and collateral for the charity’s 30th anniversary.

The campaign includes developing WDC’s 30th anniversary identity and designing a species index and a manifesto that details whale and dolphin populations today and the threats they face around the globe. Conran designed the charity’s current identity in 2012 which was launched via a film also created by the agency. The film has been nominated for a Sylvia Earle Ocean Conservation Award, and the winners will be announced on Thursday, June 8th – World Oceans Day.

This new work will align with the brand’s existing messaging, and will be used as a platform to help re-engage audiences and raise the charity’s profile. WDC is the leading charity dedicated to the protection of whales and dolphins. Its vision is a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free, and its mission is to inspire global action to protect them.

The work, which is set to launch in November this year (the identity will run for 12 months), will focus on increasing awareness of all threats faced by whales and dolphins, including commercial whale hunting, captivity, habitat protection and accidental capture in fishing nets. The manifesto will outline WDC’s intent and the species index will reveal the countries that are the worst offenders when it comes to whale and dolphin welfare.

Speaking about the new WDC work, Conran Design Group CEO Thom Newton, said:

We have admired WDC’s passion and commitment since we worked together in 2012. We are looking forward to supporting the 30th anniversary campaign and continuing to support the organisation in its critical work to protect whales and dolphins.

WDC head of communications, Danny Groves said:

After producing such a brilliant new brand identity for WDC a couple of years ago, it seemed logical to have Conran help us with a version that would also work for our 30th year and so maximise synergy between the two. When the offer of help was made, we grabbed it with both hands! Having a leading global design agency like Conran working with us is always exciting, and we remain very grateful for all their support.
