Mercury Research study on Romanian tourism market: Plane tickets, most demanded from online agencies

Business, Marketing, Studies

According to a study on Romanian tourism market conducted in April by Mercury Research, the most demanded products and services when it comes of online tourism agencies during the last year were plane tickets (90%), followed by accommodation (25%). The study showed that many clients prefer to buy plane tickets from online tourism agencies and not classic agencies (90% versus 39%). Most clients buying plane tickets are mainly single people, aged 18-30, while the accommodation offers are requested by people over 30, married or divorced.

Romanians prefer to rent a car also rather via online tourism agencies then the classic agencies (9% versus 5%). In the same time, cruises were sought for by only 2% Romanian living in urban areas and were requested by 6% of online agencies clients.

Vola.ro remains the most popular online tourism agency in Romania, with 21% people living in urban areas stating they used its services at least once, up compared to 2017, when only 14% were saying the same thing. Second placed after Vola is Momondo, with 6% of urban Romanians as clients. The high satisfaction degree (8.1 out of 10) correlated with the recommendation level (20%) places Vola.ro in the top of preference not only among online tourism agencies, but also among the classic agencies, after Christian Tour and Paralela 45.

A quarter of urban Romanians consider Vola.ro a trustworthy agency (leader among online tourism agencies also in 2019). Next are search engines Momondo (8%), Skyscanner (4%) and Esky.ro (4%).

Online tourism market gains ground and agencies are differentiating in a relatively short time interval. In choosing an agency, clients consider, to a higher degree, the trust level towards the agency, the offers and packages it offers or the quality of the client service
