Vélosophy gear up together with Nespresso, to produce thousand bikes made of coffee pods

CSR, Innovation

What goes around, comes around, that is why, at Vélosophy, the bikes are produced by using recycled aluminium, giving a new life to what often is considered a waste.

Vélosophy launched the RE:CYCLE edition of its bicycle, a perfect marriage of sustainability and design, an instant design icon of circular economy.

The bike, RE:CYCLE, is a joint venture between Vélosophy and Nespresso, and will be available only a limited quantity at the cost of approximately $1,450 at the Vélosophy website.

The RE:CYCLE has all the finishing touches one can expect from a Vélosophy – and then some surprise additions. The striking purple frame is inspired by Nespresso flavor Arpeggio, while the bell is modeled from the shape of the capsule. The steam-bent oak carrier basket includes two cup holders, so you can take your coffee to-go. This is the ultimate ride for any coffee enthusiast.

The RE:CYCLE bike makes a classic bicycle shape contemporary, whilst answering today’s challenges. It’s sourced responsibly and sustainably-made. The RE:CYCLE bike is a striking example of the circular economy at work.

Jimmy Östholm, CEO and Founder of Vélosophy:

We created Vélosophy with a clear purpose: to have a positive impact on the world. This purpose drives everything we do, from our promise to give a bike to a schoolgirl for every Vélosophy we sell, to producing our stylish city bikes from recycled aluminum.

I see in Nespresso a strong commitment to sustainability, which is why this has been the dream partnership. We are proud to have co-created a bike that takes on the future. It is beautifully designed, responsibly sourced and sustainably produced.

The core of Vélosophy philosophy is a commitment to make a lasting, positive impact to the world. This means working with recycled aluminium to design and produce high-quality bicycles that balance sustainability and design. After all, one of the most sustainable choices a consumer can make is to invest in products that will serve their needs long into the future. As all Vélosophy bikes the RE:CYCLE bike comes with our One for One promise – donating a bike to a school girl in a developing country for every Vélosophy bike sold.
