Ziua Verde returns on May 23 at ferma bio&co, with nature-based experiences and organic agriculture
Ateliere Fără Frontiere is organizing a new edition of Ziua Verde on May 23, at ferma bio&co, located near Bucharest, in Ciocănari, Dâmbovița County. The public is invited to discover a direct experience in nature, providing a better understanding of the connection between food, the environment, and the community.
Launched in 2015, ferma bio&co combines social integration with organic agriculture, through the creation of jobs for vulnerable individuals and the production of locally grown organic vegetables. Ziua Verde offers an opportunity to engage directly with the farm’s activities and explore the principles behind a sustainable food system.
A day in nature, with experiences for all ages
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to take part in guided tours of the farm and workshops for both children and adults. They will also enjoy an outdoor lunch featuring local products, along with a market with seasonal vegetables and artisanal goods.
The event is designed as a practical experience, where participants can directly observe how an organic farm operates. Children will have access to educational and interactive activities, while adults can explore both the production area and the social projects developed within the farm.
The initiative is part of the CROP – Resource Center for People and the Planet program, which aims to raise awareness among children and young people about organic agriculture and the principles of the circular economy.
“Through Ziua Verde, we aim to bring people closer to the source of their food and offer a direct experience that helps them better understand the impact of their everyday choices. For children especially, contact with nature and real farm processes can change the way they relate to consumption and the environment.” – Mădălina Hornoiu, CROP Project Manager

Participants are expected on May 23, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and tickets can be purchased in advance here: https://eventbook.ro/other/bilete-ziua-verde-un-moment-in-natura-la-ferma-bio-co
Seasonal organic vegetables, also available online
At the vegetable market during Ziua Verde, participants will be able to purchase products grown at the farm. It is an opportunity to discover the taste of fresh organic vegetables, harvested the same day or at most one day before, and to connect directly with a local and sustainable production model.
Ferma bio&co also offers recurring vegetable purchases through weekly subscriptions or one-time orders via its dedicated website. The vegetable boxes are delivered in Bucharest and Ilfov to predefined pick-up points, a solution that helps reduce the carbon footprint and supports a responsible distribution system.

Each box contains between five and eight types of seasonal vegetables, grown without pesticides or herbicides, in accordance with organic certification. Through this short supply chain model, bio&co facilitates access to fresh local products and encourages more conscious consumption aligned with the natural rhythm of agriculture.

Every purchase supports social integration
Ferma bio&co operates as a social enterprise, providing stable jobs for vulnerable individuals from rural areas in Ciocănari and nearby communities. Most employees previously had limited access to job opportunities, and working at the farm offers them not only a reliable income but also a work environment that respects human dignity and the natural rhythm of labor.
“Through its model, ferma bio&co demonstrates that organic agriculture can contribute simultaneously to environmental protection and local community development. At the same time, consumers become part of this ecosystem: every purchase, whether made at the event or through weekly subscriptions, directly supports this social integration model.” – Cristina Bîcîilă, General Director, Ateliere Fără Frontiere
Thus, the organic vegetables grown at the farm are not just a food product, but the result of a system that supports social inclusion and local economic development.

Organic agriculture in practice: from local production to responsible consumption
At ferma bio&co, organic agriculture is practiced in line with the European “Farm to Fork” strategy, without the use of chemical substances that can affect soil quality and biodiversity.
The social farm has been organically certified since 2018 and covers five hectares of agricultural land, where around 80 varieties of vegetables are cultivated each year.
Bio&co integrates principles of sustainable development, from protecting natural resources to reducing food waste. At the same time, the farm also serves as an educational space, where visitors can better understand the relationship between agriculture, food, and environmental impact.
