NE/RE-VĂZUT: Muscel – the project that transforms the stories of Câmpulung into art comes to an end
NE/RE-VĂZUT: Muscel, the cultural intervention project that transforms fragments of life into artistic installations and augmented reality works, is coming to an end. The stories of Câmpulung, its inhabitants, and its surroundings will be seen and heard on November 15, at 5:00 PM, at CoArt – Vila Vlădescu in Câmpulung.
The event marks both the conclusion of the project and the launch of the interactive catalog “NE/RE-VĂZUT: Muscel”, which brings together all the artworks created and allows the public to explore the project’s content in both printed and digital form. The interactive digital edition, integrating AR elements, links, and multimedia materials, is available at https://www.narative.ro/catalogul-nerevazut-muscel/.
Initiated by Asociația Narative and co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN), the project has, over the summer, transformed the city of Câmpulung into a living space for art, research, and intergenerational dialogue, bringing together local residents and artists from the fields of visual arts, sound, and performance.

Based on extensive research conducted by artist Cinty Ionescu, drawing from interviews and testimonies of locals from Câmpulung and nearby areas, NE/RE-VĂZUT: Muscel explores how collective memory and personal history can become tools for reconnecting with a place.
As a result of this process, nine augmented reality (AR) works were created, along with three individual pieces developed separately by invited artists Maria Năstase, Sergiu Negulici, and Cinty Ionescu, each reflecting their own research and artistic sensibility.
Through voice, image, and sound, the nine AR stories bring together past and present, turning the history of Câmpulung into a universal reflection on belonging, loss, and memory. Together, they form an affective portrait of the city.

The artists involved in the AR works are: Cinty Ionescu – research and artistic direction; Sergiu Negulici and Ioana Nicoară – illustration and 3D animation; Alex Bălă, Makunouchi Bento, and Sorin Păun – sound design.
The AR stories reconstruct, through the voices of local people, 165 years of history and transformation: from the refusal of the Câmpulung landowners’ community (The Community of the Freeholders) to sell land to the Royal House, to the wartime trauma of a family that lost generations of men at the front (War Orphans); from the story of a girl separated from her mother and identity during the capture of the Nucșoara resistance group (A Taboo Topic), to the fragile relationship between humans and nature (The Forest); from the resilience of women in wartime (Alone on the Front Line) to the paradox of a sacred ritual turned polluting gesture (Sumedru’s Fire); from everyday life under communism (The Countryside, City Edition) to the rise and fall of the ARO car factory (The ARO Saga) and the poetic portrait of today’s Muscel (The Muscel Pie).

All these perspectives will be brought together at the closing event on November 15, 5:00 PM, at CoArt – Vila Vlădescu in Câmpulung. Admission is free.
The event will also feature “Echoes from Câmpulung: the memory of an affective geometry”, an installation by Cinty Ionescu that offers an immersive journey through the voices, images, and emotions of the city, in a live performance with sound artist Alex Bălă.
The evening will also include the presentation of four new AR works – The Forest, War Orphans, A Taboo Subject, and The Community of the Freeholders – alongside five pieces previously showcased in earlier project events, offering a complete picture of the stories and themes that shape the emotional map of the city.
The project invites audiences to discover Câmpulung by transforming the urban space into an open-air gallery. The augmented reality works remain accessible after the project’s completion, in key partner locations across the city – The Romanian Automobile Museum, Câmpulung City Hall, and Coloniale – continuing the dialogue between art and the places that inspired it.
The works can also be explored through the project’s digital map (available in the catalog), which brings together all the locations in the city and offers direct access to the AR experiences, still available online via the free Reniform App.
