2026 marks the 10th anniversary of launching an air connection between Warsaw and Cluj-Napoca. Over the past 10 years, planes operated by LOT Polish Airlines have completed 4,671 journeys between Warsaw and Cluj-Napoca, spending a total of 5,370 hours in the air and carrying more than 270,000 passengers.

In 2016, immediately after launching the connection, LOT Polish Airlines was offering four flights per week. As interest among passengers grew, the service was expanded on a steady basis. In the 2026 summer season, Poland’s national carrier will be offering up to nine flights per week.

“The service to Cluj-Napoca has been popular with passengers since its very beginning and is an important element of the network of flights we offer in the Central and Eastern European region. Cluj-Napoca Airport is the largest airport in Transylvania and is located just 9 kilometres from the city centre. The route is operated using a modern fleet of Embraer planes, providing our passengers with a comfortable travel experience and convenient connections at our Warsaw hub,” said Krzysztof Moczulski, spokesperson for LOT Polish Airlines.

The city of Cluj-Napoca itself is regarded as the cultural and academic centre of Transylvania. It is well known for its bustling old town district, numerous festivals and a booming food scene. Key highlights include the historic Piața Unirii square and the Gothic St. Michael’s church towering over the city. Cluj attracts tourists looking for destinations offering a good vibe and ample cultural events. It is popular among business travellers as well, as it serves as one of Romania’s most important IT and outsourcing centres and is often referred to as “Romania’s Silicon Valley”.

The Romanian market plays an important role in LOT Polish Airlines’ development strategy in Central and Eastern Europe. The national carrier currently offers regular connections to three cities in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Oradea. The last route was launched in 2024 and constituted another step in expanding the network of flights within the region and facilitating connections between Poland and Romania.

LOT Polish Airlines is a modern carrier connecting Central and Eastern Europe with the rest of the world. LOT’s offer includes direct long-haul flights to airports in the United States, Canada, India, Japan, and South Korea. The Polish carrier has been consistently increasing the number of its flights to those destinations, thus strengthening its position in Central and Eastern Europe. It operates its long haul flights with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, one of the most advanced wide-body aircraft in the world. Present in the sky since 1929, the Polish carrier is the 11th oldest airline worldwide and one of the most internationally recognisable Polish brands.
