An absolute record number of Romanian entries at Cannes Lions 2016

Creativity, Festivals & Awards
  • 187 entries, compared to 2015’s 151 – this is Romania’s contribution to Cannes Lions 2016.

On the entries list, there are a few premieres: Bitdefender, a client, has entered work made in-house and MindShare, a media agency, saves the face of the discipline with 3 entries. After last year’s absence, Tribal, Webstyler and Digital Star have contributed with 1, 2 and 5 works, respectively, therefore confirming the digital industry’s interest for competition. Kubis Interactive joins them, with 8 entries, compared to just 2 in 2015.

After one year leave of absence, the PR industry is coming back through MSL Group The Practice (2 entries) and Rogalski Damaschin (3 entries).

Amongst the agencies that did not compete last year but are very present in 2016 are: Cohn & Jansen (13), Mullen Lowe Profero (4), Media Concept Store (3), Jazz (3) and Ogilvy (2).

Upping their game in the number of entries (compared to 2015) are GMP (6 vs. 2), FCB (3 vs. 2) and the highest rise, McCann (63 vs. 43).

A continuous interest is still present from the Romanian agencies with tradition in Cannes, despite a drop in the number of entries from some: Leo Burnett presents 14 entries, vs. 21 last year, as does Publicis with 36 vs. 39 and Geometry Global with 15 vs. 27. A few names dropped out from the competitor’s list, compared to 2015: Tuio, SuperSomething, Propaganda, Ampro Design and Starcom.

The Young Lions teams, who will compete in the Design (empowered by Nikon Lenswear) and Cyber (empowered by Renania) categories, as well as a student at the Roger Hatchuel Academy, complete the Romanian presence on the French Riviera. At the same time, Miruna Macri has been selected, following recommendations from Cannes Lions Romania, to take part in the prestigious “See it Be it” program, dedicated to the women of the creative industries. Furthermore, Razvan Capanescu, Chief Creative Officer at Leo Burnett, will be present on the festival’s scene holding a Master Class.
