A fictional short movie to raise awareness about the dangerous cultural drift that hides behind racist and xenophobic hate crimes, a dramatically increasing social phenomenon – in Italy as well as globally – potentially capable to lead to a never-ending vicious cycle.

The short movie directed by Flavio Nani is entitled B∙52 (the cocktail named after the Boeing B-52 bomber, used by the US troops to drop napalm bombs during the Vietnam War), will be disclosed by The Big Now/mcgarrybowen, full-service creative agency part of Dentsu Aegis Network, under the patronage of Amnesty International Italia, on the occasion of the ‘The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination’ (March 21st).

Set in a near future, the short film sheds light on some of the creepy dynamics that are rooted in our contemporary society: people who favor integration become a target to be eliminated in a dreadful game in which – as told in the movie’s epilogue – the line between the victim and committer becomes inevitably blurred.

“B∙52 is an authentic movie: the truthfulness of the narrative is the key to represent the cultural drift that is already under our eyes – says Flavio Nani, Film Director and Head of Production of The Big Now/mcgarrybowen – The dystopic setting that serves as background of the narrative is intended to further strengthen the authenticity of the story; far from a science-fiction context, the audience will be led to wonder how close the scenario depicted in the film is.”

“We are pleased to sponsor this short movie. It clearly tells that hatred may become a boomerang, it may turn back to those who spread it. Moreover, it reminds us how easily the line between hate speech and hate crime can be crossed”, says Riccardo Noury, speaker of Amnesty International Italia.

The short movie B∙52, produced by The Big Angle, is now online on Amnesty International Italia’s website and social media, on the video channels of Corriere.it, La Repubblica.it and Il Sole24Ore.com, and on-air on TV channels: SKY (Sky TG24 e Sky On Demand), La 7 and Discovery (Nove, Real Time, Giallo, Dmax, HGTV, Motor Trend and Food Network).
