41 Awards at the Romanian 2020 Effies

18 agencies and companies were awarded at the 17th Effie Awards Gala that took part for the first time ever in the competition’s history in an online format on EFFIE Romania’s and IAA Romania’s Facebook pages and on the Discord platform. Overall, there were awarded 41 prizes: 1 Grand Effie, 8 Gold Effie, 13 Silver Effie and 19 Bronze Effie.

The winning agencies and companies this year were: Cohn & Jansen JWT, Headvertising, Kubis Interactive, GMP+Webstyler, Leo Burnett Bucharest, Graffiti PR, Mainstage The Agency, Mercury360, Minio Studio, Most Wanted Ideas, MRM // McCann Romania, Propaganda, Publicis Romania, Saatchi & Saatchi + The Geeks, The Onion Media, Tribal Worldwide, Vodafone Romania and Zenith.

The agencies that received the biggest number of points in the competition were Leo Burnett Bucharest, Publicis and MSL The Practice.

Leo Burnett Bucharest received 15 awards – 1 Grand Effie, 4 Gold Effie, 5 Silver Effie and 5 Bronze Effie, with three projects Samsung – The Banknote Concerts (Grand Effie, 1 Gold Effie in Branded Utility and 3 Silver Effies in the categories Seasonal Marketing, Brand Experience and Carpe Diem), Telekom – Storytime (Gold Effie in Brand Experience and Silver Effie in Branded Utility), Telekom – Smart Wi-Fi (Gold Effie in Telecommunications), Curtea Veche Publishing – #TimeToRead (Gold Effie in Other products & services, 2 Bronze Effies in the categories Engaged Communities and Positive Change: Social Good – Brands), Gillette Skinguard – “Life without Irritations” (Silver Effie in Branded Content & Entertainment a Bronze Effie in Personal Care Products & Services, alongside Graffiti PR), Telekom – THE BURNOUT HOTLINE (2 Bronze Effie in the categories Branded Utility and Positive Change: Social Good – Brands).

Publicis Romania gathered 8 awards in total, from which 1 Gold Effie, 3 Silver Effies and 4 Bronze Effies, with the campaigns Timisoreana – The unconditional supporter of football (Gold Effie in the category Sports Marketing), Drama Queen – Magnevie Stress Resist (1 Silver Effie in Brand Experience), OLX – No Two Jobs Are The Same and Get The Whole Story on Autovit.ro, with one Silver Effie each in the category e-commerce, Carrefour – Proofs of Love (1 Bronze Effie in Retail), ORANGE LOVE + HBO (Bronze Effie in Telecommunication), Coca-Cola – The gift of listening (Bronze Effie in Seasonal Marketing) and Kinder – Santa’s Calling (Bronze Effie in the category Brand Experience).

The top of this year’s best clients is dominated by Telekom and Samsung Romania, with the same amount of points. Besides the Grand Effie for The Banknote Concert, Samsung won 1 Gold Effie and 3 Silver Effies for the same campaign, while Telekom added 5 more Effie awards to its portfolio, as follows: 2 Gold Effies, 1 Silver Effie and 2 Bronze Effies. Ursus Breweries placed third on the brands’ podium, with a Gold Effie for Timisoreana and other 5 nominations for URSUS.

Other winning brands were: 5 to go, Aqua Carpatica Autovit.ro, BCR, Carrefour, Coca-Cola, Curtea Veche Publishing, Durex, Edenia Foods, Funky Citizens, George, Gillette, ING Bank, KFC, Kinder, Magnevie Stress Resist, Mountain Dew, Napolact, OLX Jobs, Orange, Romanian Police, Rompetrol GO, TUC, Unisol and Vodafone.

According to the Romanian Effie Rankings, calculated based on the international Effie Index system, The Client of the Year title was received both by Telekom Romania and Samsung Romania, The Brand of the Year going also to both Telekom and Samsung. The Agency of the Year was Leo Burnett Bucharest.

The Effie Awards 2020 Gala was presented by Andi Moisescu, the event’s host. Alongside the awarding itself, Effie 2020 proposed itself to recuperate a part of the last year’s and a half stories and to be an industry radiography through an interactive talk panel in which took place eight guests from advertising, marketing and related areas: Mihai Barsan (The President of the Organizing Committee EFFIE 2020), Victor Dobre (Executive Director IAA Romania), Dana Pascu (Brand Strategy Consultant), Razvan Capanescu (Creative Partner Wings CLL), Hypno (imagemaker), Raul Gheba (comedian, writer & copywriter), Bogdan Naumovici (Managing Partner 23 Communication Ideas) and Serban Pavlu (actor).

The President of the Jury was Charlie Hiscocks, Founder Curious Eye Ltd, also President of the Scoring Committee, this year’s new structure that sets the acceding steps in the final round, therefore establishing the edition’s nominees, as well as the winners of the competition after the second judging round.

Romanian Effie Awards 2020 was a project organized by IAA Romania and UAPR, supported by Kaufland, Philip Morris Romania, Coca-Cola, George and Ursus Specialitati.
