Starting 21st June 2025, the city of Deauville will host the very first edition of the Deauville Sport Images Festival, with AFP as an official partner. The work of the Agency’s photographers will be prominently featured through an exclusive exhibition entitled “A World of Sport”, along with three group exhibitions.

The Deauville Sport Images Festival, taking place from 21 June to 21 September 2025, will offer a fresh perspective on the values of sport through photography. The Festival will feature 12 free-to-access exhibitions throughout the city and host a major opening night event, La Nuit du Sport, on 21 June at the Deauville International Centre. A number of other events — including an auction, talks, and guided tours — will punctuate the Festival.

Through 25 photographs, the exhibition offers a unique lens on sport and its universal appeal. It will take visitors into the heart of playing fields, stadiums, and makeshift spaces where the passion for sport is expressed in all its diversity.

From the bustling streets of Lagos to the snow-capped peaks of Bolivia, from rugby on a floating pitch in Switzerland to horse races in Mongolia, each image captured by AFP’s photojournalists tells its own powerful story.

Beyond performance and competition, the exhibition highlights sport’s role as a vehicle for culture, social connection, and intergenerational transmission.

“20 Sports Photos That Made History”

This exhibition celebrates athletes through iconic images. These photographs capture unforgettable moments where champions such as Usain Bolt, Muhammad Ali, Jesse Owens, and many others left a lasting mark on the history of their sport — through intensity, power, or raw emotion.

US champion Jesse Owens (R) and German champion Luz Long (L) chat together on the Berlin stadium 01 August 1936 during the Olympic Games where Owens captured 4 gold medals, 100m, 200m, 4x100m and long jump. Luz, second of Owens, captured the long jump silver. Grandson of a slave and legendary athlete, “Jesse” Owens established 6 world records in 1935. “Jesse” Owens retained his 100m world record for 20 years and his long jump world record for 25 years (until 1960).
