Facebook’s facial recognition, turned off in Europe

Digital & Media, Social Media

Facebook shuts down its facial-recognition photo tool in Europe, following objections from the regulator. Therefor, facial recognition tool is no longer available to new Facebook users, while existing templates will be removed by October 15, MandMGlobal writes.

The move follows a review in December 2011 by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) which said that Facebook’s “tag suggest” feature¬†contravened the¬†European Union data privacy laws.

Following the review, Facebook was given half year to comply with the recommendations.
