Romanian start-up Flip.ro: €1.3M sales so far in 2020, surpassing the estimates

Romanian start-up Flip.ro achieved sales of over €1.3M since launch from selling refurbished phones.

Ten months since launch, Flip.ro, founded by Alin Luca and George Moroianu, achieved sales of over €1.3M , surpassing the initial estimates for 2020.

The positive evolution of the turnover is due to a trend noticed on the local market, namely that people are more and more inclined to buy  a second-hand refurbished phone instead of a new one. The reasons include more accessible prices, quality of the products, safety of the acquisition and others.

Since the store was launched in December 2019 until now, over 6,000 phones were sold via Flip.ro. Romanians are considering the platform an ideal alternative to the classical classified because they can sell their phones safe, from the comfort of their home, receiving an amount comparable with the one offered by traditional classified websites.

Flip.ro extended the warranty offered at sale, from 100 days to 12 months, for all the phones on the platform. This strategy is part from company’s mission to offer to the clients a similar experience to that of buying a new phone.

In the same time with the extension of the warranty, Flip introduced also the instant sale, a new way to sell phones online, that diminishes the period until the seller receives the money in exchange of a bigger commission.

The start-up has, until now, over 1,100 positive reviews from clients on Google, Facebook and platform’s website.

Flip.ro is the first verified and refurbished second-hand phones marketplace in Romania. It launched 10 months ago, following an investment of € 120,000 made by V7 Capital, owned by Andrei Crețu and Iulian Cîrciumaru, cofounders of 7card network, GapMinder (through Techcelerator) and Difrnt Agency.

In June, Flip.ro received a new financing, of € 250,000, through which the company aimed to become leader on second-hand and refurbished electronics market in Romania. Flip.ro’s objective is to change the way people are buying and selling refurbished second-hand phones, making the process easier, safer and transparent. One of the development directions for 2021 is sales expansion internationally.
