The startup reunites doctors with specific expertise in sub-branches of pediatrics, professionals in biomedical research and IT experts.

KIDoc, currently under construction, will offer a customized communication environment for the parent and the medical team, under the umbrella KIDoc Together, will allow an easy storage of all medical documents in digital format (KIDoc Digital) and will help the beneficiaries also when it comes of administrating the medication (KIDoc Treatment).

Andreea Serban, founder KIDoc:

The professional instrument to assist the administration of the treatment is unique on the Romanian market. KIDoc tells you when it is the time for a new dose, makes sure a new medicine does not interact with those the child is already taking and warns on the possibility of an adverse reaction. We wish to use the data collected via the app to insure an as best as possible treatment for all patients with the same pathology. The collected data will be offered to the doctor in an easy to analyze format, with info about the adherence and the answer to the treatment. In the same time, in the future, when accumulated data will allow it, we wish to explore the possibility of integrating some Machine Learning algorithms, to assist the doctor in making the difficult therapeutic decisions.

To start with, the doctor and her team aims to launch on the market KIDoc Epi, for children suffering of epilepsy and their families, and aim to develop next year two similar solution for two other chronical pathologies, asthma and diabetes. The KIDoc Epi mobile app, to be available for testing in May, aims to 4,000 users in the first year and at least 1,000 clients for the premium version, which will include the 3 functionalities, KIDoc Together, KIDoc Treatment and KIDoc Digital. To those will add the circa 200 beneficiaries of KIDoc Social, children with handicap or from disadvantaged environments and who benefit for free by the Premium functionalities.

The data from Romanian Statistics Institute show there are 480,000 children in Romania suffering of a chronical disease.

In the 10 months since the start of the project, we discussed with over 1,000 parents of children with chronical diseases and with health professionals involved in caring for them. Focusing on epilepsy on this first part of the project, we brought together the most known pediatrician neurologists in Romania and representatives from associations of parents with children suffering of this pathology. With help from mentors, we came with a pricing strategy and we identified options to insure the social component of the project. Now the MVP is final, including a platform for communication and document exchange between the members of the team that cares for a little epileptic patient, from parents to pediatric neurologists, physiotherapists and psychologists

Together with Andreea, in the project are involved Victor Teianu, Lead Developer, and Tiberiu Iordache, Rares Petruc, Alexandru Babian and Andrada Cânțu, Junior Software Engineers from Automatics and Computers Faculty at Bucharest Politechnical University.

KIDoc is one of the 5 projects part of the second edition of the Innovators for Children accelerator, program developed by Impact Hub Bucharest, in partnership with Impact Hub Basel and Fondation Botnar, through which startups and NGOs are receiving mentorship, resources and financing to develop tech solutions which contribute to children’s’ wellbeing.
