These European beaches are taking over Instagram, new study reveals

All News, Digital & Media

Some beaches are made for swimming, while others look as if they were designed for the camera roll. From turquoise lagoons and white cliffs to colorful seaside backdrops, Europe is home to some of the most photographed coastal spots in the world.

A new study by Europe Private Tours analyzed Instagram hashtag data to reveal the most Instagrammable beaches in Europe. The ranking is based on the number of hashtags connected to each beach, showing which destinations travelers are sharing the most online.

Turkey’s Oludeniz takes the top spot, with 993,000 Instagram hashtags linked to the beach. The destination is known for its bright blue lagoon, calm water and dramatic mountain backdrop, making it one of Europe’s most recognizable beach views. Its hashtag count places it far ahead of every other beach in the ranking, showing just how dominant it has become on social media.

Greece’s Navagio Beach ranks second with 299,000 hashtags. Also known as Shipwreck Beach, the Zakynthos landmark is one of Europe’s most famous coastal views thanks to the wrecked ship sitting on white sand beneath towering limestone cliffs. Golden Beach in Cyprus follows in third place with 274,000 hashtags, proving that quieter, nature-led beaches can still become major Instagram favorites.

Cyprus appears again in fourth place with Nissi Beach, which has 257,000 hashtags. Its clear turquoise water, shallow shoreline and lively summer atmosphere make it a favorite for vacation posts, beach party content and classic Mediterranean travel photos. Italy’s Scala Dei Turchi rounds out the top five with 249,000 hashtags, standing out for its striking white limestone cliffs rather than the usual sand-and-sea backdrop.

Montenegro’s Sveti Stefan Beach ranks sixth with 240,000 hashtags. The beach is best known for its view of the historic island village connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of sand, giving visitors one of the most distinctive coastal scenes in Europe. Albania’s Ksamil Beach takes seventh place with 223,000 hashtags, helped by its clear water, small islands and growing reputation as one of Europe’s most talked-about beach destinations.

Italy lands another beach in the top 10 with San Vito Lo Capo in eighth place, recording 220,000 hashtags. The Sicilian beach is known for its bright sand, calm blue sea and mountain-framed coastline, making it a favorite for travelers looking for postcard-style beach photos. Portugal’s Costa Nova ranks ninth with 199,000 hashtags, where the colorful striped houses near the beach have become almost as photo-worthy as the coastline itself.

Spain’s La Concha Beach completes the top 10 with 174,000 hashtags. Located in San Sebastián, the beach offers a different kind of Instagram appeal, combining a curved bay, city skyline and coastal scenery in one shot. Unlike many remote beach destinations in the ranking, La Concha proves that urban beaches can be just as photogenic as island coves and secluded lagoons.
