GPeC (Gala Premiilor eCommerce) Romania release data on e-commerce market in Romania and also an infographic illustrating it.

According to the released info, 3D secure card transactions reached to Euro 218M in 2012, up from Euro 157M in 2011, with the average transaction worth Euro 60 when paying in foreign currencies and Euro 45 when paying in Romanian currency.

In Romania, 781 stores accept payments with 3D secure cards from the total of 3,500 online stores on the market.  There are 11,3M cards in Romania enrolled in 3D Secure system, from which 410,000 are active and effectively used for online transactions.

With an average of 300,000 transactions / month through 3D Secure system, one of the 9M Romanian internet users are shopping online.

In Romania, internet’s penetration rate is 43% .

When it comes of demographics, online buyers are 25-34 y.o., are mostly men (54.8% men, 45.2% women), live in urban areas (83.5%) and have a medium salary of RON 1,400 – 1,800. Romanian online buyers.

From total Romanian retail, e-commerce has a 1.3% share. The e-tail market was Euro 600M in 2012 (excepting tourism, services, utilities and so on) and is estimated to reach Euro 750M in 2013.

In e-tail, 90% of payments are made at delivery.
