GolinHarris, that communicates for History since the start of 2013, signed the communication campaign for the launch of “Vikings” series in Romania. The launch strategy included a campaign endorser, teasing and amplifying it in social media, street stunts, events, contests and radio visits, all adapted to the historical note of the series.
The campaign started with a teaser from campaign’s endorser, Cosmin Tudoran, that took place on his personal Facebook page and on his blog. Due to his similar features with Ragnar, the main character from Vikings, Cosmin decided to cut his hair viking-style. He asked for his Facebook friends opinion and dared them to like a photo with Ragnar if they want him to adopt the same hairstyle.
The broadcast of the 1st episode of the series was marked with a viking-themed event, a feast organized by GolinHarris and History. Also, the campaign included a street stunt, during which 3 vikings walked Bucharest’s streets and dared History’s fans to look for them, tell them a password previously published on a Facebook page and receive a prize.
The campaign also included a media blitz, with radio and media newsrooms receiving, in the morning of Viking’s premiere on Romanian TV, a Nordic breakfast rich in fish.
After the success in US, where Vikings reached number 1, History decided to have Romania and Poland as the 2 first European countries where the show will be broadcasted, which was a great joy for us. History team showed openness and enthusiasm towards our ideas and we made together one of the most popular campaigns this autumn, with Cosmin Tudoran having a memorable role in it
