BBDO Belgium and Douwe Egberts use coffee to get people closer

Douwe Egberts, BBDO Belgium and Latcho Drom work together to make coffee bring people together and to offer them the perfect excuse to grow closer to each other or start of something new.

The agency and the coffee brand launched an emotional TV commercial in the true Douwe Egberts tradition, using a family environment, authentic, modern, deeply humane and daring. The TVC is a perfect way to give a meaning once again to the tagline “There is some Douwe Egberts in the air”

The commercial relays the modern-day story of a divorced couple, presenting the mom dropping off the children for another week with their father. The reunion is cautious, new balance is fragile and still, the dad invites in his ex wife for a cup of coffee. Spotting his ex’s new boyfriend outside, he calms down the tension with a cup of coffee, this time for the guy downstairs and a signal he accepts the new situation.

The cinematic images and truthful acting make it look like a scene from a movie, but the story is recognizable and authentic. Life after divorce is a delicate subject that Douwe Egberts does not want to shun. As a “caregiver brand”, they want to – and dare to – take up an essential place in people’s day-to-day lives, one filled with warmth.
