Digital & Media, Media

According to a CNN research on how news articles are shared through social media, only 27% of social networks users represent the influencers and they are sharing 87% of the news stories.

Guardian shows that, between social networks, most stories are shared on Facebook Twitter, YouTube and MySpace – 43%, 30% by email, 15% by SMS and 12% via instant messenger.

The three main motivations for sharing differ around the world. In Europe and North America, users share them because they might be useful / interesting for friends or family, Europeans tend to share more work-related stories and Asia-Pacific readers share things that underline or reinforce their own knowledge and identity.

Most of the shared content – 65% were, according to the research, major news stories, 19% – breaking news and 16% – funnies or quirky news.
